Ending Anti-Asian Hate Starts With Each of Us: A Statement from PRSA Silicon Valley

The Silicon Valley Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America stands in solidarity with our diverse Asian-American community and colleagues. But it’s not enough to merely voice our support: we must do the work as well.

As professional communicators, we have the responsibility to increase public awareness of growing anti-Asian hate and violence, both through our programs and partnerships and with our employers, clients, and communities.

To this end, we are supporting students and young professionals of color through a new scholarship program that will open up more opportunities in public relations for them, and our mentorship program nurtures young people entering a challenging profession that still needs nudging.

We have successfully recruited a remarkably diverse board of directors, and our membership more and more reflects the population of Silicon Valley. And our programming, such as our #FridayForum series, continues to feature communications leaders and issues that home in on the important issues of language, race, opportunity, and obstacles.

We must work together to stand against violence and discrimination. We hope our entire community of PR and communications professionals will join us on the road to #StopAsianHate.

Here are additional resources concerning anti-Asian violence and ways to support the local APIDA community:
